Europe travel by sasha blog

Hi, I'm Sasha. As an artist, I've always dreamed of seeing Europe's masterpieces in person-the Louvre, the architecture of London, the canals of Amsterdam. After months of juggling art commissions and feeling creatively drained, my cousins Neal, Natasha, Manuel, and I decided we desperately needed an adventure. What followed was an incredible 11-day journey through some of Europe's most iconic cities that reignited my passion for art and reminded me why family bonds are life's greatest masterpiece.

The Spark of Adventure

It all started when Natasha spotted a vibrant travel poster and shared it in our cousins' group chat. Within minutes, we were all sold-Neal excited about London's tech scene, me dying to see Paris's art, Manuel craving the Swiss Alps' fresh air, and Natasha ready for any adventure. We pooled our savings and booked the tour, counting down the days until departure.

Day 1: London – A Grand Arrival

Landing in London felt surreal. After months of staring at canvases in my studio, suddenly I was walking through a city I'd only seen in films and art books. We checked into our hotel and grabbed Indian food nearby-not what you'd expect for a first London meal, but it was perfect. The evening stroll through Piccadilly Circus, with its neon lights reflecting off wet streets, felt like stepping into a living painting.

Day 2: London's Icons & Wax Stars

Seeing Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and Tower Bridge in person was incredible, but as an artist, I found myself constantly sketching architectural details in my mind. At Madame Tussauds, while Manuel posed hilariously with Bollywood stars, I was fascinated by the craftsmanship-the way they captured not just likeness but personality in wax.

Sometimes the most beautiful art isn't hanging in galleries-it's the memories you create with family while discovering the world together.

Day 3: Changing Guards & Floating to Holland

The precision of the royal guards at Buckingham Palace was like watching a choreographed performance. The London Eye gave us breathtaking panoramic views of the city sprawling below like a living map. But the real adventure began when we boarded the overnight cruise to Holland-literally sailing into our next chapter!

Day 4: Windmills, Cheese & Canals

Holland exceeded every expectation. At Zaanse Schans, watching traditional wooden shoe demonstrations while surrounded by historic windmills felt like traveling back in time. The Dutch cheese was incredible (Neal bought embarrassing amounts), but the Amsterdam canal cruise was pure magic. Floating under centuries-old arched bridges, past houses with their unique gabled architecture-every angle was a potential painting.

Day 5: Brussels' Chocolate & Parisian Dreams

Our Brussels stop was brief but sweet-literally. After seeing the famous Manneken Pis and indulging in Belgian chocolates, we headed to the city I'd been dreaming about: Paris. When the Eiffel Tower came into view, glittering against the evening sky, I nearly cried. This was it-the artistic heart of Europe.

Day 6: Eiffel Tower & Parisian Glamour

Standing atop the Eiffel Tower, Paris spread out below us like a masterpiece. The city tour was a dream come true-Notre Dame's Gothic grandeur, the Louvre's endless corridors of art, the elegant sweep of Champs-Élysées. Every street corner seemed to whisper stories of the artists who'd walked these same paths before me.

Paris doesn't just show you art-it makes you feel like you're living inside a painting, where every moment is brushed with magic and possibility.

Day 7: Free Day – Disney Magic

We chose Disneyland for our free day, and honestly? Best decision ever. Sometimes you need to embrace your inner child, especially when you're surrounded by such incredible artistry-even in theme park form. That evening's Seine River cruise showed us Paris illuminated like a jewel, and I knew I'd be painting this scene for years to come.

Day 8: Scenic Drive to Zurich

The drive through the Swiss countryside was breathtaking. As an artist, I'm always chasing light, and the way the sun played across the rolling hills and distant Alps was pure inspiration. Zurich welcomed us with crisp mountain air and a sense of pristine beauty that felt almost otherworldly.

Day 9: Lucerne & the Call of the Alps

Lucerne's lakeside charm and the moving Lion Monument (carved directly into the rock face-incredible craftsmanship!) were beautiful, but the real adventure came when Manuel and Neal convinced us to take the Mount Titlis tour. The Rotair cable car offered 360-degree views that no photograph could capture. Walking across the Cliff Walk was terrifying and exhilarating, and sliding down Glacier Park made us all laugh like children.

Day 10: Interlaken & Jungfraujoch

Interlaken looked like it was pulled straight from a postcard. While Natasha shopped for Swiss chocolates, I joined the others on the journey to Jungfraujoch-Europe's highest railway station. Standing before the Aletsch Glacier felt like being on another planet entirely. The scale, the pristine beauty, the way light danced on ice-it was nature as the ultimate artist.

Day 11: Farewell, Europe

Packing on our final morning felt bittersweet. This trip hadn't just shown me Europe's artistic treasures-it had reminded me why I fell in love with art in the first place. The way light hits water in Amsterdam, the grandeur of Parisian architecture, the raw beauty of Swiss glaciers-every moment was a lesson in seeing the world with fresh eyes.

As we boarded our flight home, already planning our next adventure (Greece, here we come!), I realized this journey had given me something invaluable: not just memories and inspiration, but a deeper appreciation for the art of friendship and the masterpiece that is shared adventure.

Tips for Fellow Travelers (& Artists!)

Pack light, dream big: Europe's trains and transfers are frequent-travel light but bring a sketchbook!

Embrace group dynamics: Traveling with cousins means compromise, but the shared memories are worth every negotiation.

Book tours strategically: Optional excursions like Mount Titlis and Jungfraujoch are pricey but absolutely worth it for the experience.

Document everything: Whether through photos, sketches, or journaling-Europe offers endless inspiration.

Best Time to Visit: We traveled in late spring, and the weather was perfect. May to September offers mild temperatures and longer days-ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

This European adventure reminded me that the best art isn't always found in museums-sometimes it's the laughter shared with cousins against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, or the quiet moment watching sunrise over the Swiss Alps. Europe's beauty lies not just in its landmarks, but in how it makes you feel alive, inspired, and grateful for the journey.
